چکیده

We consider the problem of correcting an inconsistent system of linear inequalities, Ax ≤ b, subject to nonnegativity constraints, x ≥ 0. We formulate this problem as a nonlinear program and derive the corresponding Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions. These conditions reveal several interesting properties that solutions must satisfy and allow us to derive several equivalent problems that involve fewer decision variables and are more amenable to solution. We propose using a gradient projection method to minimize an objective function φ(x), subject only to x ≥ 0. We also propose a hybrid approach that exploits an interesting relation between the correction problem and the method of total least squares.

Correcting an Inconsistent System of Linear Inequalities by Nonlinear Programming

12 total least squares. This technique involves computing but one singular value decomposition. An analogous approach is evidently available if one seeks to correct an inconsistent system of linear inequalities without nonnegativity constraints. This correction problem is equivalent to the uncon-strained problem of minimizing the objective function. Again, one can use a gradient method, e.g. st...

Error bounds for inconsistent linear inequalities and programs

For any system of linear inequalities, consistent or not, the norm of the violations of the inequalities by a given point, multiplied by a condition constant that is independent of the point, bounds the distance between the point and the nonempty set of points that minimize these violations. Similarly, for a dual pair of possibly infeasible linear programs, the norm of violations of primal-dual...

Simulation of Rainfall - Runoff Events by Applying Phase Differences Diagrams and Correcting Effective Rainfall Components

The conversion of rainfall to runoff in basins includes nonlinear relations between the complex interactions of various hydrological processes. In this study, without considering of predetermined structure, relationship between input and output system was derived individually from the nature of the data recorded. Also, the phase difference occurred between rainfall and runoff signals using c...

Hybrid model predictive control of a nonlinear three-tank system based on the proposed compact form of piecewise affine model

In this paper, a predictive control based on the proposed hybrid model is designed to control the fluid height in a three-tank system with nonlinear dynamics whose operating mode depends on the instantaneous amount of system states. The use of nonlinear hybrid model in predictive control leads to a problem of mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) which is very complex and time consuming t...
